User error instead of MB error if gear down mode is the first thing he touches when an OS isn't even loaded. 😏

was doing my general BIOS setting stuff after first POST n boot, and did not remember if gear down was auto or off, this was a pure user error for the most part, and too stubborn to check the BuildZoid memory settings :|

My hatred of gigabyte was about 2006. I sent a perect LOOKING motherboard back to them for RMA, and they denied it and sent it back. They sabotaged the motherboard ! Had scratches in all the places that mattered. I had a witness too ! Never bought a thing from them since.
Before they closed their site back in mid 2017 french outlet Hardware.fr were publishing regularly the RMA rates of PC parts of France s biggest retailer.

In one of their last such survey Asrock MBs were the most reliable followed in order by Asus, Gigabyte and last being MSI whose RMA rate was 63% higher than Asrock.

So the legend of Asrock being a cheapish brand is long gone for whom is aware of the real numbers.

Which is hilarious considering ASRock was supposed to be the "commodity Asus". I've had good luck with them.

Same here, last MB i bought was an Asrock, and next will be as well.

Even more hilarious is that Asus sold Asrock back in 2007 thinking that the cheapish sticker would damage their own image, with the results we all know.

Waiting to see how the 9950X3D compares to the 7950X (non-X3D) for mixed (gaming, productivity, etc) workloads. X3D chips begin dropping next month.

Normally I would've waited a generation more after seeing reviews, but my board is complete garbage and now that I am working less (read: not at all) and gaming more (a bit), I want a more gaming friendly chip, but without sacrificing much productivity, so I've decided on that chip to hold me over for a bit.

I think I'm going to be watching the X870E boards drop so I can get a decent board to go with it...has anyone published a list of X870(e) boards and specs yet?

Have dialed in my daily 24/7 settings @ 8400MT/s for my new m-die set 👍
Had to relax a few of the timings compared to what i have showed earlier, but these settings are rock stable for me

Completed the following in the same windows boot:

~15hours Karhu @ 340mb/s

1 hour Y-cruncher 0.8.5 all tests (which is really hard to run for Zen5, upto 336w usage)

And to end it off i ran 1.5hours TestMem 5 1usmus cfg

8500MT/s is no-go on this ES CPU, even with more relaxed timings on the memory.
Working on binning/testing 3x 9950X retail's atm, so far 2/3 fell short of my ES, only 1 chance left before ES get delidded and used as my "main"

Good work but curious why your using an old version of HWiNFO? I got notice today, v 8.10-5520 is out already & non beta.

What information are you missing ?
Are you certain that the delidding process will go smoothly?
Can never be certain of anything in life
If it dies then it dies, i have a other ES to plop in, but then i have to go radio silent for a few months again 🤣

I thought protocol for any build was to leave the BIOS on all default settings until you had a fully stable and working OS? Then and only then can you start changing things.
I like to live dangerously 🤣 All I wanted to do was turn the memory settings referenced earlier off; context restore and power down, per BuildZoid. I screwed up by touching the gear down setting

So not a dig at Gigabyte, this was user error.

The 7800X3D is on an AsRock board, I like their BIOS a bit better.

Feeling a bit froggy because the 990 EVO 1TB is on sale; thinking about getting 2, one used for Windows OS install and one used for a Linux OS install 🤔

I like the QoL improvements with M2 heatsinks and PCIE slots, but that's hardly worth the price, and certainly not upgrading any board on the same socket. The RAM traces and supposed speed improvements, I'll believe it only when if I see it.

AI everywhere and it all voids the warranties.
But thats Perfect!
If there is a problem there is plasuable deniability!
But but but... the AI overclocker did it not me! So ASUS and AMD you figure out the warranty issue!

As a side I threw up in my mount a little reading the ASUS feature set:
AI Networking II
AI Cooling II
AI Overclocking

I do wonder if the better tracing and dimm socket construction will really give some additional benefit or its all marketing fluf?

Took some pictures from my Zen5 delid, if your well versed in overclocking these will probably not be so interesting, but maybe they can help some of the new users around here 👍

How the ES looked right out of the delidder: (7950X with cracked die in the background, more on it later)

Side by side after i have used the 7950X to scrape the glue off, around the dies

First application of liquid metal to eat the indium

Let it eat for ~15min

How the indium looked after first LM removal

New LM application which consume the rest of the indium while i sleep

~6 hours later

Repeated the prosess one more time while i went to work

Final picture after cleaning with isopropanol
(its real easy to see the cracked IO die on the 7950X here)

Only thing left now is to install the naked beauty before the abuse starts 😈🤣
