This is such a weird launch again from AMD. 15th of July today and we know nothing about ZEN5. No prices, no release day. Why they are doing it like this?
Speak of the devil.

very happy that the 9700x is 65 watts TDP, with ppt of 88Watts. its nice to see the focus on efficiency on desktop.

This slide is so misleading again. 5800X3D doesn't use more than 80W in gaming, so there's a good chance 9700X took more energy in the test. TDP doesn't say anything for gaming workloads. Oh and 7800X3D uses 60W for being 20% faster than 5800X3D.

Embargo date will likely be release date, though AMD may choose to make it earlier. Prices will be revealed prior.

Embargo time should be 9am EST. For comparison, at the time of this post it is July 15th, 2024 8:20am EST.

Computerbase has 7800X3D being 17% faster that 5800X3D/7700X, so this means that 9700X @ stock should be 4-5% slower on average than 700X3D. Not bad at all.

I really dislike AMD comparison of Radeon 800M x Radeon 700M. It doesn't disclose SKU, so we don't know if it's 16 CU x 12 CU or a apples to apples 12 CU x 12 CU. But still is a nice improvement, specially on the 15W TDP.

Ryzen 7700X was a match for the 5800X3D. And now 9700X is 12% faster on average. It's not bad. I also appreciate the significantly lower TDP.

Yeah the slide is misleading. I was refering to the fact that 120w 9700x rumour is false.

Just ran 40W at stock/JEDEC here but stock on my X670E Aorus Xtreme sets to 2000FCLK, not 1800FCLK as pictured in his screenshot.

Considering my 7950X outscored his by quite a lot at the same PPT and core power, it seems less than impressive.

Lowering my FCLK to 1800 simply increased the power available to the cores and bumped the score a few percent.
I guess my paltry scores at very low power vs Zen 4 and Zen 5 have a lot to do with my 12nm IOD vs the 6nm. I didnt bother with going JDEC speeds, I dont think the power addition would have done much.

Dont think that AMD numbers are at 720p like Computerbase, surely at 1080p, in wich case there s less than 17% between 7800X3D and 5800X3D/7700X.

It's crazy bad. Even if you just look at the numbers from Computerbase, a 13% uplift from 7700X to 9700X is ok-ish at best. Literally the worst gaming uplift of all major Ryzen Gens. The bad part comes when you realize that CB tests with Stock RAM, whereas AMD already used 6000 EXPO 2 years ago. HUB tests with EXPO RAM as well and 7700X is 8% faster than 5800X3D in their tests. So every Outlet that tests with EXPO RAM will have like 4% between 7700X and 9700X. Sorry, Vanilla ZEN5 looks like a complete Dud for gaming.

According to 9700x / 5800x3d = 12% graph and 3dcenter summary below:

9700x would have ~92.5% gaming perf of 7800x3d and use less power than 5800x3d(105w) and 7700x(105w), very likely efficiency would be roughly on par with 7800x3d.

It would be very interesting to see tuned 9700x vs tuned 7800x3d comparison.

AMD and HP co-engineered on Strix Point to increase the NPU TOPs. Omnibook special Strix Point SKU has 55 TOPs.

This is really great for AMD. Specially due to being HP, an close partner of Intel. Shows that there's high interest in their new line-up.

Your own quoted slide says 62W for 5800X3D and 75W for 7700X. 9700X could potetentially draw 88W, AMDs slide is misleading, we don't know if it will be more efficient than 5800X3D.

Yeah, but it IS more efficient. The silicon we are seeing today we should have seen at the launch of RDNA3. AMD would have thoroughly trounced NVIDIA had they been able to clock as high as they wanted. Imagine if all RDNA3.* SKUs were 19-32% faster.

I think they should do a respin. They won’t, but they should. I bet they’d beat NVIDIA next-gen, except maybe the 5090. A 3.6-4.0 ghz 96 CU 8800XTX would be…interesting lol

Yeah but no one wants to buy 14900K after recent news 😅
I was checking eBay this morning for one. $219 for the cheapest “buy it now” listing. Not cheap enough yet. When you can get them for $50 I will pick one up. 🤣

If Arrow Lake also has the issue, Intel is going to be in serious trouble and AMD may finally be able to dominate the market. What an odd/unexpected turn of events that would be.
