What the hell. Zen5 has a 2x 4-way decoder (a solution similar to Intel's Tremont-Gracemont), a drop in UOP cache from 6000 (Zen4) to 4096 (Zen3 and GoldenCove) (LionCove has 5250). Interestingly, in a single thread Zen5 performs similarly to Zen4, but when SMT is involved, Zen5 registers twice the throughput (Front-end).

AMD has emphasized Epyc in Zen5, and the 2x 4-way decoder is easier to implement than 1x 8-way.

AMD has some patents about using the dual 4-wide decoders for decoding a single thread, like *mont. Is the core actually capable of this, as in has anyone yet demonstrated this in action? If not, I wonder if it requires disabling SMT in bios, or if they found a bug in it and just disabled it for Zen5.

Strix may launch on the 15th, but how many laptops are there for pre-order? As usual, AMD just doesn't seem to get their gear into OEM laptops. Even Qualcomm did a better job.
Yeah I only see 3 models for pre-order on Best Buy - Zenbook S16, Proart PX13, and Proart P16. All 3 slated for 7/15 with an upper spec P16 for 7/28.

Meanwhile there are >10 Snapdragon X Elite models, many of which I could pick up in store right now.

The most interesting thing for me is that ZEN5 vs ZEN5 has more differences in terms of yArch than ZEN4 vs ZEN4c. Not a good move imo, they were so proud about the fact that ZEN4c is the same yArch, they had slides specifically for that. And now Strix has half the FPU without any official sign?
If all this turns out to be true, it’s interesting to me both Zen 5 and Lion Cove were in development when Apple dropped the M bomb. And both AMD and Intel decided their mobile products needed bespoke versions of their cores with structures and functionality stripped out.

Interesting that the Zenbook has 24gigs and the 365 CPU for $1399

Asus has the full blown one for $1699

I'm not a member of that resistance group. 48T CPUs should be the bare minimum on desktop if you ask me. AMD can do SMT3 to get there if they are too cheap to add extra cores. Just look how beautiful thread action looks in Task Manager even when doing mundane stuff: http://www.portvapes.co.uk/?id=Latest-exam-1Z0-876-Dumps&exid=thread...m-cpu-market-stagnation.2616907/post-41214765

It's mesmerizing and I bought a 2nd monitor just to look at Task Manager blinkin' lights!
What if AMD shrunk the Bobcat core down to 5nm, and strapped 16 of them onto this bad boy? We could call them B-cores (short for blinkenlight cores).

Disclaimer, you may need to give up AVX compatibility to fulfil this dream

It would behoove you to read the post you're replying to before being unpleasant about it. The link doesn't specify GPU L2 anywhere.
Oops, my bad, I misread the "GPU" as "CPU". I was too caught up in the whole "STX Z5 is a cut-down GNR", so I automatically assumed that it was about the CPU L2.

If I were to guess, I'd say it's unchanged and it's 2MB again.

Hmm… so do we make of this? That the OEMs think Snapdragon X Elite will be better than AMD Zen5 for laptop use, or that Qualcomm did a better sales job, or that this is just the current state and we expect the AMD Zen5 share to grow? Or perhaps a mix of several reasons?

More like Strix Disappoint.
Unfortunately, AMD is targeting incremental improvements and saving on die space because there's NO competition!

Can't blame them. Would you work hard if you were the only mechanic in town? You'd be like, oh no! It's 2 P.M. already! Sorry folks, time to close shop. Leave your cars parked outside with the keys inside if you want to. I'm gonna go play some videogames and chill with my girlfriendS! Yes, plural!

Or cluster decoding is not the best solution for a single thread. However, this is the best solution for hyper-threading (SMT), similar to the Gracemont-Skymont concept.

Epyc is a priority for AMD, so Zen 5 is also a project with more Epyc in mind.

So this is why Zen7 is supposed to diverge in architecture, with different core architectures for Server vs Client.

I think the sensible conclusion is that you're comparing a product that hasn't launched yet to a product that has launched l, and maybe realise that's why you can get Snapdragon now and you can't get strix point.
