Thread to focus on Zen4 3D cache CPUs.

New gaming king (as most expected), though the 2 CCD 7950x3d does seem to have issues with some games, more than I would expect of it getting stuck on the "wrong" CCD. I imagine it will get cleared up with subsequent updates but we'll see. Simulated 7800X3D showed no such issues and overall has the gaming lead (real product might be slightly slower though depending on in game clocks).

Computerbase also has the 7950x3d as the gaming champ. They (and TPU) also show that efficiency while gaming is extremely good.

Just to toot my own horn a little, it landed spot on with my prediction of fastest gaming CPU but not significantly so over a 13900k on average, but with much higher efficiency.

Additional reviews, will add more later.

2017 - Ryzen 1800X 8C 16T = MSRP $499
2018 - Ryzen 2700X 8C 16T = MSRP $329
2019 - Ryzen 3700X 8C 16T = MSRP $329
2020 - Ryzen 5800X 8C 16T = MSRP $449
2022 - Ryzen 5800X3D 8C 16T = MSRP $449
2022 - Ryzen 7700X 8C 16T = MSRP $399
2023 - Ryzen 7800X3D 8C 16T = MSRP $449

Sorry to say but this is stagnation, I could understand why 5800X increased (vs 3700X) the MSRP at $449 back in 2020 with the Ming and Cov pandemic but having again an 8C 16T at $449 in 2023 , we are not going forward but staying at the same spot .
We need a Ryzen 1000 moment again soon otherwise we are reaching the Intel 2011 to 2017 time of 4C 8T parade but with a little bit higher IPC this time.
We may be "stagnating" in core counts, but certainly not in performance. Eight core 7700x has probably what 30% higher clockspeed and maybe 50% higher IPC compared to 1800x?

I am not going to fact check your numbers, but the point is a good one. I'd add that $449 today isn't what it was when Zen 1 launched either. Nor could you even get the stacked 3D on those older models. AMD lowering prices on 8 cores was because they had to. No company sells for less than what the market will bear. When the must have it crowd are cleared out, if it isn't moving they'll reduce the prices like always.

This is the way.

Hopefully a sign the scalpers have been burned enough to give up.

MicroCenter has some anti-scalping measures in place. During the GPU shortage, I had to come back with an ID to be able to buy a 6600XT.

There was a guy there trying to buy 2 cards, and he brought with him his elderly father, but the MicroCenter guys were not falling for it. They asked the elderly gentleman what he is going to do with the card, and he just gave them a blank stare. The son said:

"He does video editing"

The MicroCenter guys just laughed and refused to sell him the 2nd card.

And unlike the video card market, it seems like the competition in the CPU market is actually working.

That's good to read. I would have thought with sales cratering, they would sell to anyone that's buying. Can't wait to visit one this year or next.

That would amount to 1.95x the perf, that s about it since Computerbase MT tests say 2.12x the perf for a 7700X vs a 1800X.

Edit : That s 14.63% average yearly improvement in a matter of 5.5 years.

My local Micro Center is still showing 25+ 7800x3D in stock on the website. I was in there today grabbing something for work and it wasn't busy at all. There was 1 dude ahead of me at the online pickup counter. Looks like a great gaming CPU (especially for simulation) and I was a bit surprised they didn't sell out right away. People must be convinced they suck at accelerating BVH structures or something....🤣

It's definitely sold out online.

I managed to snag two but the earliest I'll get one is Tuesday at BB in store pickup. No MC in my state sadly.

LoL. That guy basically said "screw you guys, I'm going home!". He up and left the forums because people wouldn't accept his nonsense.

Ordering online is easier than driving to a physical store. I'm not sure if using MC as a basis of something being sought after is good due to their limited locations but what the hell do I know about product logistics? Nothing. I myself take the easiest route possible for attaining a product. That is ordering it. That way I can pop open a beer or pour myself a drink and relax and let my fat fingers do the work.

I'm aware. I went back and forth (perhaps around in circles would be more accurate) with @Carfax83 on many occasions. For someone who said he enjoyed debating hardware he sure picked up his ball and went home in a hurry as soon as his narratives fell apart.

BVH structures, BVH stuctures, BVH structures.

I'm not superstitious but perhaps that will summon him back. I'm not gonna lie, the shtick was annoying but also kind of entertaining.

I better STFU now before @DAPUNISHER punts my ball into the cheap seats for being off topic. But then again that would probably also be entertaining and hilarious for the rest of you.

I don't post that often. I follow this forum pretty regularly though.
I'm terrible with remembering names which is why I asked. Without looking I only remember a few users off here but that's because most of my discussions are with them. Every so often I'll see a moderator or member post wondering if they'd come back a hiatus only to find I've had conversations with them a few days before or whenever.
