Zip drives

Ok, here's the scoop, Zip 100 on Parallel, Shows up Under SCSI Controller in 98se. I need to change the drive letter, but when I use the Iomega tools to change the drive letter, it won't stick, change from g to z, reboot, back to g. Any suggestions?? thanks

Yeah, I'd check the config.sys file, and make sure "Last Drive" is set to "z".

No Max drive Letter in Config sys, so it should default to Z. I can change it to Z, but when I go to reboot to make the changes take effect, it just goes back.

Have you tried changing it to a letter other than "z" (such as "q" or something)? It would be interesting to see if it allowed you to change the drive letter at all.

Tried every Letter from g-z, just won't do it.

It sounds like the Iomega tools won't let you assign a drive letter that isn't contiguous with the other drive letters already defined on your system. I'm not sure if this is a known problem or not with the Iomega software, but a visit to their website wouldn't hurt.

For the meantime, however, try this.

Go to your device manager and look for the zip drive entry. Look at its properties, and click on settings. Make sure that "start drive letter" and "end drive letter" are both set to "z" and not "g".

The reason I am trying to do it through Iomega tools is because it reports under SCSI in DM, and you cannot modify the start and end Drive Letter... Thanks anyway. Anyone else with any ideas....

Iomega Tools will (should) always place the PP zip drives at the end of the drive list. I believe this is a limitation of how it goes about loading the drivers.

Yeah, well unfortunatly my HP Digital camera needs to take one of those Drive Letters, and the zip won't let it. Oh well. Thanks for the input...

do you need the iomega tools? If not, uninstall them..

My PP Zip shows up as Z drive after I changed it, so does an internal Zip on another PC.

I don't think I installed the Iomega tools, don't remember. But I never used it. All you need it to install the driver for the PP zip.

On your PP zip, where is it inside device manager...SCSI or Disks....And also, what os are you using, cause ME and 2k handle devices better. This is a 98 problem.
