I read earlier that the $30 off is not valid 'til next year. I found a coupon for the same drive at computernot4sure that is $30 off and valid only until 12/31. Look in the coupon/rebate section. Sorry if someone else already posted....didn't feel like reading thru 8 pages...

For those of you buying multiple drives, are you getting separate receipts for each one? Just picked up a busload of these things from BestBuy but I might have to get that one receipt broken into smaller chunks just in case there's a limit of one per customer. That way I can just run to the several stores around town and pricematch individually. My rebate receipts alone took almost the whole role of the cashiers paper in his register. We'll see if this pans out....

Hmm.. .doesn't Bestbuy's price matching requires that the competitors have the item in stock? For those that purchased from Best Buy, how are you so sure that your local compusa will still have them available?

Maybe I'm wrong. who knows?

Damn that didn't read this deal until now. For us Northeaster, we expect huge snow storm tomorrow beginning early morning. It's a challenge to go to CompUSA (1-1.5 hours each way transit) to get this drive in the snow.

Get it tomorrow in the snow, price match it Sunday again in the snow;
or not get it at all and feel bad about missing this deal??

Does CompUSA price match over their web site? I checked Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, Circuit City, none have it. Best Buy is not exactly in NYC (though there is one in LIC).

IOMEGA ZIPCD3840INT-A is what mine reports. Best Buy and CompUSA sell the exact same model, I just purchased one of each at both stores.

The Iomega boards say this is a Plextor, and that Iomega has NOT been good about supporting firmware updates Read messages in this iomega board thread

Here in Seattle, due to the newspaper strike... some special deals can be made

Bestbuy will check to see if local compusa have it instock before pricematch. Bestbuy opens at 10am and compusa opens at 9am. By the time bestbuy opens there probably won't be any left instock at your local compusa. Your best choice is to buy at compusa now, and do pm later.

The limit for the $30 rebate is 10 per name/address.. That's plenty!

I just got one from Tigard, OR and there are 8 left. Becareful though, they put some 8/4/24 on the shelf and labeled them 12/10/32.

have fun.

CompUSA's Sunday hours are actually 10am-6pm. They open at 9am from Mon-Sat, but not on Sundays. So the Best Buy deal is worth a shot if you arrive at 9am sharp.

No one has yet to 100% confirm that this sale will go on. However, it would be funny if there is no sale. But I bought one anyway at $279. I also got one of those 12X4X32 and it does have burn proof. I want to sell it rather than returning it.

Anyone knows if we can use the Plextor firmware to update the 12X10X32 like we can with the Sanyo for the Iomega 12X4X32?

Man, you guys should check out the Iomega forum. It looks like Iomega is really crappy about getting out firmware updates, and other stuff. This could mean that a buyer may never see 32x DAE like all other drives have now.

Here is the address again to one topic.

Schmo - I placed an order on Buy.com for the TDK one and it came out to ~$260 before the 50 rebate. How did you get it for $160. If the 160 is legit and I am sure it is, I will get that too and give it to my sister. Please PM or email me!

If this truly is a rebadged PLEXTOR drive, then the following
are true:

1) This deal just went carbonizing hot!
2) You will NOT be able to flash the drive with the latest
and greatest firmware UNLESS some enterprising soul writes
a small utility to modify the identifier string on the drive
to change it from Iomega to Plextor. This has been done for the
Iomega 8x20 SCSI drives, as well as the HP 40X SCSI CDroms (same
as Plextor). So it shouldn't be hard to do it in this case.

This is my first post to a forum so please play nice, okay? For those that were wondering - the reason the $150 off was given today at the Seattle store is that the ads came out early here. I've had it on my desk for 2 days. Just went down to CompUSA tonight, showed the ad to the manager and picked one up for a total of $129 and tax.

RE: Firmware, I tried using Plextor's and TDK's ver 1.07 firmware upgrade but it would not work, said no Plextor drives found. I emailed Iomega, they said they promptly responded that they did "not reccomend a firmware upgrade", and would not provide a utility to upgrade. Plextor said they do not support OEM (relabeled) drives. Maybe Iomega will eventually provide a firmware upgrade. It would help if everyone would email their customer support and ask for the current firmware. [L]http://www.iomega.com/support/nav_techemail.html[/L] Maybe someone can hack the plextor firmware utility or write a utility to rename the drive to a Plextor, like was done with the Imation/Plextor 820. On a positive this is a great drive as is, and the price is unbelievable. My TLA# 0203, firmware 1.03 drive reads subchannel fine with CloneCD, many of the TDKs would not.

I'm in Seattle and got two of them (Best Buy @ $120 + CompUSA @ $130).. mine came as 1.04 firmware... how do you get that TLA number?

Using Fireburner 1.06 ... You know those cheap Dysen 1-8x 74minute 10-packs that BestBuy.com was selling for $1.99 with free shipping... it even burns those at 10x (but not 12x).... sweet!

The TLA# is written on the drive label. I believe some are TLA# 0204 firmware 1.04, some TLA# 0203 firmware 1.03 .
