As it was suggested earlier, I don't understand why more people don't just either get it at BestBuy right now and pricematch it + the 10% difference or on Sunday get it somewhere else that price matches to avoid the mad rush from Compusa. Actually, the early Sunday edition of the newspaper's Compusa flyer that comes out early Saturday might spell out the exact details of the offer.

It is not that easy to PM as it sounds...

At the time of Pm-ing, CompUSA should have the crap in stock for sale/available... and what are the chances that all these planets will be in line.. next to zero

Just pickup 10 right now from BestBuy, then on Sunday morning go back and price match with the ad. If they need to call - let them call the 7 local stores in the area. By the sound of how stocked Compusa is with these things, I don't see much of a problem.

Hi all,

Been lurking for a couple weeks... but this is my first post .

Just got back from CompUSA here in NJ, still a few left, looks like the news is getting around. The kid at the register played dumb about the IR (but he wasn't very convincing). He said that if there is an IR on Sunday, that I could return the drive and essentially re-purchase it with the IR. Sounds good to me!

Also, just wanted to thank all of you at this site for helping me build a seriously kick a$$ machine for 1/3 of what I could buy it on the street for. All these deals really add up

Picked up 3 from Culver City, CA.... they have a lot left... I don't see a problem in finding one or getting to one... but do you know what would've been the greatest deal of all time?? Is if OfficeDepot still had their 155% pricematch policy, then that would make this... CD-RW for ~$55... hahaa, back in the good ol' days of Office Depot and complaining about managers and stuff..

Get in on this, if not for urself, try to make a few $$$ off of it..

peace,

From the look of it, this is IDE drive right? Do they make SCSI version of this drive with BURN proof? I can't find it on Iomega site.

** EDIT **
Never mind. I found it. SCSI CDRW Drive

Im going to get one tommorrw, but I have a question. I noticed Plextor, TDK, HP, etc. has released several Firmware updates, yet if you look at Iomega's site, there is only 1 firmware update for all of their drives. It is only for one type of drive too. Is this a bad sign? Also, if this is just a repackaged plextor, could you use Plextors firmware updates on the Iomega drive? Please help?

Hmmm. Want to buy it tonight, but thinking they could take the legalese (which refers to "limited-quantity" offers not being eligible) and say it doesn't apply to this item. Plus some stores (don't know about CompUSA) won't give you full price if you try to return an item that has been discounted or clearanced since you bought it. Don't think I'll risk the $180. Just too risky.

"CompUSA?s Retail Store Low Price Guarantee. *We'll beat any legitimate price from any local authorized retail store on every product we sell, either at the time of purchase or within the following 14 days. Our low price guarantee pertains to all new, factory-sealed products of the same brand and model number that are available and in-stock at any local authorized retail store. Our guarantee does not apply to competitors' one-of-a-kind or other limited-quantity offers, special financing, installation, online competitors, manufacturer's rebate or when a bonus or free offer is included in the purchase. *Some restrictions apply."

Tmartini,

You said:

"Plus some stores (don't know about CompUSA) won't give you full price if you try to return an item that has been discounted or clearanced since you bought it. "

Even if you have a receipt? I understand without a receipt...

But if you have a receipt, and return the item within the time the store policy dictates, and they give you less than you paid for it, then I think you would have to call that theft

There are 2 drives listed at compusa, which is the correct one to buy the 249 or the 279 both are listed as 12x10x32

So, the "best" thing to do would be to:
1) go to CompUSA today and buy the 279.00 Zip CD 12x10x32 at full price.
2) go back on Sunday with receipt and unopened box to get the IR of 150.00
3) mail in the rebate for another 30.00 off for a grand total of 99.00 (not including tax)

Right??? or do we have to wait until Sunday?

Just want to be sure. Patience, this is all new to me.

I just went to my local store, and the clerk was nice enough to ask if I *really* wanted to buy it today. I said with a knowing grin that I did. He then subversively told me that it was going on sale Sunday. I think that's pretty classy of their employees. I'd hate to be someone who actually bought the thing who felt completely f*cked over come Sunday.

I just wanted to let everyone know that it apparently is a legit sale.

Unfortunately, my Best Buy (Fair Lakes / Fairfax) didn't have any Iomega drives on the shelf. Things were pretty much wiped out, but they were putting $250+ HP drives on the shelf. I guess I'll have to hit another BB tomorrow.

You have it right, Comtrader. Best to go get it when it is there. Most people who expect to waltze into CompUSA on Sunday and snap one of these up should not be surprized to find empty shelves. There will be lines well before the store opens to grab this deal. The store where I purchased mine tonight had only 23 left. Who wants to stand outside a store with a bunch of shivering stiffs waiting for it to open? Lots of sad sacks Sunday morning, and you will read about it right here.

Sorry, no scanner/copier/camera here.

Surely I can't be the only one that got the IR already?

I have tried to find out how much CACHE memory the drive has, but could not find ANY information on that!

Does anybody know how much cache the drive actually has?

What is the use of a 10x or 12x drive, if it constantly underruns the datastream and stops burning? It then needs to recapture the sector and prepare again for burning.

from their site:
"Although this feature improves the likelihood of making successful CDs, it may
slow down the burn time if the flow of data to your ZipCD drive is continually
interrupted. To help prevent this from happening, you will need to follow some
buffer underrun guidelines. By doing this, the buffer should be less likely to
empty and the burn time for you CDs should improve."

Only a large cache can compensate the timing problems of Windoze without loosing speed.

If the cache is small (i.e. 2MB) then the 10x are just a marketing trick in my eyes.

Owned - Yes you are the only one that got the price adjustment immediately. Is that so hard to believe? I am amazed you are having a hard to grasping the idea that CompUSA doesn't want to shell out $150 for a deal that does not exist yet. I talked to the manager and she said that she wants to do it for me but it'd be $150 out of her pocket. On Sunday she gets compensated for it so I have to do it Sunday. Consider yourself very lucky. I don't think the majority of the people here will get the instant rebate today.
