I've been shoveling all morning here in Northern NJ. Looks like about 18".

Thank God I ran out and picked up one of these yesterday.

I hope the roads are clear by tomorrow so I can go get my rebate

MrVW, sure it's a 12/10/32 with BurnProof for $99 which rocks... But the thing is, if it's really a rebadged Plextor then it could be much improved with a proper firmware update. From Plextor's site:

Date posted: November 27, 2000
- Improved write performance and quality with Pioneer 8x CD-R media
- Improved Digital Audio Extraction (reading Audio data from CD-DA discs) speed. Drive now capable of 32x maximum audio extraction.
- Improved reading of CD-Text data on CD-Text Audio CDs.
- Fixed a bug that occurred only on Mac systems when making an Audio CD. This did not occur with all WAV or AIFF files. This occurred only with certain files where the last set of data being sent to the drive by the software from the whole file was larger than 64kbytes. This resulted in an Audio track that contained folded over sound at the end of the track.
- Fixed bug with some motherboards that intermittently did not detect the drive in the motherboard BIOS.

Well, CompUSA is 37 miles away from me...I'm NOT gonna drive up there to get it, drive back...then have to drive back up there again to get $$$ off of the drive.

I'll just take my chances and get there first thing in the morning

So if I buy it tomorrow, the rebate will still apply right?

I just got one. THe Fort Worth CompUSA only had 3 left, so if you want one hurry.

So has anyone found a way to update the Firmware. For anyone who has opened theirs and is willing to try, would you using the listed in an earlier post. Here is a link again to the site which explains how to update a creative using plextors update program.

Hmm.... Just got back from Culver City's CompUSA, there were about 10 when I got in, only 4 after I left, and I saved one for a friend, so there's only 3 left!!!

I asked the people there and even after the $150 IR we need to pay the tax on $300!!! So that comes out to be an extra $20 =( for us Cali people. Got mine for $303 total - $150 - $30 = $123 + $0.34 cent stamp. Still a nice deal!!!

Does anyone know if i actually have to bring the drive back to the store or just the receipt to get the price adjusted on sunday or monday and if they really are willing to adjust the price even when they don't have anymore ?
I had problems with them before one time where they didn't want to adjust the price after i bought something before the sale because they were out of stock on the sale date and said they wouldn't let me adjust price because i bought it on a non-sale-date and they didn't have anymore in stock when the sale was on and i ended up just returning it a week later.

thanks

Tiger,

The way I see it... couldn't you just then return the drive you bought on the spot and all of a sudden that store now has a stock of exactly one drive which you can then just repurchase at the sale price? If they try to argue with you that they don't have any in stock and can't give you the pricematch, just tell them that you'll return this drive now and repurchase it and to save them the hassle they just might as well pricematch it.

CompUSA Ad

Here's a link to a page of the CompUSA ad I scanned.

I went to three stores today:
Arlington, TX: had a bunch
Irving, TX: only had a couple
Hurst, TX: had a bunch

sprog123, tried that last time, and they argued with me, that when they take in a return, it doesn't go straight back to in stock, it goes into their "returned items box/cage" and will be entered into the system at a later time. he couldn't give me the refund and then ring it up again at sale cost.. i have to say he was a d*ckhead to begin with but the manager gave me the same story after i talked to him. Maybe it's just these NYC stubborn people or it really is their policy and only if they feel like it they'll help you out... just wanted to make sure since i don't feel like tracking through this snowstorm here today and tomorrow and end up with a return next week...

Anyone else wiith some info on this ?

It is guaranteed they will give you a hassle if you try to return one and re-buy it. First, you cannot get the price difference on a 2 day sale. A salesman told me that their price difference policy only works on regular weekly sales. If you want to return it and re-buy it anything is possible, but its likely they will try to restock it before it can be resold. Buy I have bought things other customers have returned 1 minute after they returned it.

That being said, I bought 1 zipcd for myself and will use that as a return/repurchase in case I can't get one at the sale price when the store opens.

mrVW, I would think if it's an "instant rebate" then it's fair to charge sales tax on the total amount of $279.99, since a rebate is applied after you purchase the item. But if it's called "savings" which is applied before you purchase the item, then they should only charge sales tax on $129.99. What do other people think?

That is exactly my point - it is NOT an instant rebate -- it is just a 2-day sale. the price was $129.99 on my CompUSA receipt... and $114.99 on my Best Buy after getting a price gurantee (you have to purchase first, then say that you saw it cheaper at compusa then bestbuy refunds the difference).

Again - Photo of my iomega 12x10x32x as purchased from compusa / bestbuy -- what is it (Plextor)?

does anyone know if there is a limit on this deal?
casue i just got mine, and there were tons of them stacked on the shelves i would say atleast 50-70 of them. the reason i think it's not sold out casue it's snowing like crazy here in new york city. if some can find out that there is no limit then i will go buy some more.

thanx.

If you read CompUSA price match policy it does not include "limited quantity" items. This sale is a "limited quantity" sale, so technically it does not apply for pricematching.

I spoke with the store manager at one store and he said he would allow the pricematch if I came back tomorrow, but I doubt every store will be that lenient.

If you don't open the package you can return it for a full refund, so there is no loss if you buy it today and they won't give you the savings tomorrow.

You know what i think, i think taxes suck, PERIOD. Now if i was still in Hong Kong, not only would i get this cheaper, i would not pay tax either. Then again i'm not there so i will suck it up, close my eyes, and hand my credit card to the cashier.

I have yet to see where it states limited quantity, limit one per customer, 'special' sale, or the like. Just called Bestbuy customer service and their price match doesn't matter if it's a 2-day, 2-hour, or 2-minute sale - just show the ad. But with the rate at which you guys are cleaning out the Compusa's there won't be any inventory left to price match with. Let the GAMES begin!!

If you buy an Item from Comp one day and the next day it goes on sale cheaper they give you the sale price no matter what if you bring your receipt in to them. I asked the manager and 2 other clerks and this is what they told me.
