Creative 8432 firmware 1.07

The Creative 8432 is actually a rebadged Plextor 8/4/32 (with only 2MB cache). To be able to use CloneCD with this drive you must have firmware 1.07 installed. However, Creative does not provide firmware upgrades on their website and the Plextor firmware update will not work. Here's a work around:

1. Download the Plextor firmware upgrade utility PXUpgrade32 and the Firmware 1.07 Binary File for PX-W8432T .
2. Switch off DMA for the Creative. You can do this in the Device Manager.
3. Switch off the PC and turn it back on while holding down the Creative's CD tray open/close button, you will notice that the drive's light will be flashing and then on bootup it'll show up as a Plextor 8/4/32.
4. Once in Windows you can run the Plextor update program and flash the drive to firmware 1.07.
5. Turn on DMA again.
6. Reboot your system.

This is at your own risk, this may void warranty!

i'd say its most definitely a plextor.

I stopped in the local CompUSA in NE Phila. I went to the customer service desk first and asked if I could have the $150.00 Instant Rebate today so I would not have to come back on Sunday. No problem they had an employee bring one over and it was rung up at the discounted price.

I find it humorous that at many CompUSA stores they will be sold out of this drive before Sunday morning, and they have to explain WHY they have 0 in stock to all the disappointed, angry people who are in line before the store opens. They probably will not know why until the hot dealers come lazily strolling in later in the day with a smile on their face, a toothpick between their teeth, and a receipt in their pocket...

Thanks to my friend T for IM me about this thread! We both picked up these drives at our local(jax,fl) CompUsa. The acted ignorant about the 150 off, but we spoke with the manager and told him about our &quot;brother-in-law&quot; (lol) in Seattle who already bought it today with the 150.00 off. He went in the back and came out a minute later and confirmed they will be on sale tomorrow with the 150 buck instant savings. Since we learned from past experiences about missing out on hot deals(i.e.- OD $119.00 HD deal) he said we could purchase today and come back withing 2wks to get the price adjustment...thanks for the great deal guys!

They are different asterisks for different items.

Let's get the deal with the asterisks straight before causing unnecessary concern. People are making this way too complicated. Seems like a simple, straight-forward deal to me - You snooze, you lose! Preparation is the key to these types of things. There's not much to lose - credit card fronts you the cash for 30 days, price match policy insures your lowest price, eGay or whatever provides a steady stream of techno, lust-hungry customers, and return policy kicks in if all else fails. Nothing ventured, nothing gained....

For those of you worried about inventory levels, just pick up 10 at Compusa and 10 and Bestbuy today. Tomorrow morning, find a Compusa and Bestbuy next to each other and return the ones to Compusa and run very fast over to Bestbuy and price match + 10% with the ones you just returned to Compusa!

OK... report... I powered on my 12x10x32x iomega while holding down the cd-open button. All it does is flash the light (forever) and it did NOT change the ID string that my hard drive BIOS reported for the device. The tray wouldn't open either... tried it twice.
