yeah it is funny to see the *bay listings. Seems like the max going bid so far is only around $113 though. To break even, they need at least $99.99 + $10 sales tax + at least $6 *bay fees = $116. A lot of these sales are "no reserve" too. With many more of these items coming out in the next few days I'm sure, I wonder if anyone would actually lose money in doing this. Of course, if you get the extra 10% off at BestBuy, then your break-even price would be around $101.

Just picked up one at comp and went over to best buy for
price match. They had lowered their price to $139.97 and
had 10 on the shelf. Montclair, california

wahoo!

i got mine this morning! got to compusa at 9:15am, lined up at 9:50 (no one was around and it was cold) the minute they opened the door everyone in line (maybe 20 of us) walked in a line straight to the cd burners.

only they weren't on the shelf :Q

so we asked the guy behind the counter where the HD's were and playing VERY stupid he had no idea.

another guy found a shipping box with five of them in there. he grabbed two and I luckily was nearby and grabbed one for myself. ah... the object of everyone's envy. hehehe. so the CompUSA in Sunnyvale, CA was gone in five minutes. (they only had those 5 though)

Here is my contribution. My friend and I grabbed 2/3 from the CompUSA in Monrovia on Friday. Today we went back in for a price reduction. There were about a dozen people running around the store noticeably confused and upset. While I was doing my price adjustment the manager came up and told the girl that the policy is ONE PER CUSTOMER and if anyone comes with more than one they can pricematch one and return the rest if they want. I already had my drive but I started arguing with him just because telling him that there is no limit. To prove it I took out the flier and then I saw it. It does say One Per Customer. Now all of you are arguing that it applies only to the HP computer since there is a big blue bar that blocks it off. Well there is an asterix on the ZipCD. Where does it match up with? I am looking at it and I don't see any other asterix's with details. Anyways, that was my particular CompUSA. Then I headed to Best Buy and found they already lowered the price to 129.99 before rebate. The shelves were empty. So I called up my friend (who I was getting it for) and told her to grab it online. I hope she listened. What's interesting is my local CompUSA didn't store stock in the back before this big sale. I think it was kinda funny how pissed off the manager was but it was his own fault. After arguing with him he said "No! That is our policy. One per customer because people came in yesterday and bought all our drives and we had very upset people today!" You would think they would have anticipated this and put some in back. Oh well, thanks everyone, deal of the month if not year!

>Anyone here from Queens? I just got back and there was a mad rush of about 20 people toward the CDRW section. I think they were cleared out in less than a minute.

I called Queens (Rego Park, NY) store yesterday afternoon about 4pm, spoke to their mamaner Mario who was willing to honor the $150 off yesterday but the problem was that he close the store early due to the snow storm that there was no way I could get there by subway (cost me 1.5 hour each ride+).
Unfortunately he claim it's first come first serve on Sunday that he cannot hold one for me.

Regardless, I order mine online, cost me $5 S&H but saved $2.72 on subway.

I showed up around 12:15 and they still had at least 35 of them left.
My guess is they started with 50.

i stopped by bestbuy and notice that did not open till 11am, so I head over to compusa to do the price adjustment. Then I head back to bestbuy to see if they can pricematch one I bought yesterday. They did it without checking stock. $115 + tax. Thank you for the deal.

I got the last cdrw yesterday but it was opened at comp usa. Should I get some kind of "open boxed" discount or special compensation when i return it today for a pricematch?

AMDEMALL,
I ordered mine at 1 am and it shows 'processing' and they've authorized the CC -- I think that it's gone as far as it can without human intervention -- don't forget this is Sunday of a long weekend and tomorrow is a holiday.

I doubt the status will change before Tues afternoon, at the earliest. Unfortunately for me, my Compusa is 50 miles away (and in another state) and none of the other retailers consider that 'local' for pricematching. So online was my only choice.

I'm off tomorrow for a week's vacation in the sun, but when I get back, I'm sure I'll have my burner sitting on my chair!

Happy new year to everyone and hoping for lots more of these deals to keep my purse skinny!
And thanks to everyone for the heads up/tips on this!

Hey sygyzy, please make an appointment to the optometrist if you cannot plainly see what the asterisk is referring to.... Is it so distinctly obvious that people dream it isn't there or what?

(my bad Brud) Yes he should have his eyes examined.

NO WHERE does it say:
* limit 1 per customer

The * links the product
(12x10x32 internal CD-RW*)
to the details
(* Up to 32X max)

OHH and the article written under the HP computer that * refers to that product only. READ the entire thing there are a few * placed in that area. One says (* Up to 48X max) so you saying that * means my 12x10x32 burner does 48X. WOW cool

hey guys. I lined up this morning, and they only had 5 in stock. I say thats freaking false advertising. they have 5 of drives and they post a sale on it. thats very unfair. more people took advantage of the sale too early and now, people who saw the ad and thought they were gonna get it fair and square didn't get it. CompUSA should have compensated those fairly, without the hassle of having to do anything.

so I talked to the manager and he allowed 10 people to pre-pay (raincheck) for the drive. my friend and I are #1 and #2 on the pre-pay list. the raincheck lasts till april 1, 2000. so I am sure they will have some in stock by then. Good luck to everyone who wants to get one.

That is my point exactly - please read the previous thread posts before jumping to conclusions on what my intent is with the asterisk. I've been preaching up and down the mountain there is no stated limit! Not sure what your rambling is with the free item stuff though, since nowhere does it talk about that. The ad has already been scanned in for the benefit of the optically challenged about 300 posts ago.

These people that 'read into it' further than need be I'm sure were involved in the Florida 'butterfly ballot' confusion also....

The compusa in san jose took preorder for those cdrw drives. They will take about 20-24 preorder. They are expecting shipment within one week.

As far as the limit goes..."WHATEVER"! I got mine.

Edit: On second thought, I decided to scan the ad to make liars out of you suckas. Check it out here under Anandtech. But I'm sure after you see it in print, you will come up with another excuse.

Kudos to everyone for their reading skills but remember that in the end, whether or not there is (or should I say WAS!) a 1-per-customer limit enforced is ENTIRELY up to the managers and staff at a particular store. It's not up to my or to your interpretation of the small print in the Sunday paper, and everyone's mileage can and probably did vary. As I've pointed out, the folks I dealt with were enforcing a 1-per-customer limit, except of course for the 2 I managed to get

But AAAAAAANNNNYWAY, I hooked mine up, successfully flashed to 1.07 under W2K without messing around with DMA or anything else, and now I'm in business.

This almost <g> makes up for the serious state of pissed-offedness I was in over missing out on CompUSA's $99 Cendyne/Ricoh 8x8x32 deal 2 weeks ago.

Compusa might have changed the rules after the game had started, but Bestbuy had no such limit and that also applied with their Price Protection Policy. It really was as simple as that!!
