Not threadcrapping but is this really a good deal? I wanted the GTO but missed out. That's the main thing holding me back from building a new system.
How does MSI compare with the other graphic card makers? Are they quick with rebates?

I missed out on the Gto's as well, as far as i see its a good deal. even without the MIR it's one of the lowest prices on the net for a GTX, most stores are selling them for 400+, only open box or refurbished cards are selling for less than 400.

I have an MSI 7600Gt which is considered the fastest 7600Gt, and it has HDCP so as far as how they stack up with the other VGa card makers, i'd say they're up there with the best of em. Not to mention it seems they are the only company with a G80 out right now. As for their rebates i can't say, i sent in one a month or 2 ago and haven't received it yet, but they did say to expect at most an 8 week wait.

Don't wait too long to build that system, waiting too long is the reason i missed the GTO's when i finally made up my mind to get one they were all gone. At the end of the madness Mwave was selling off the last of the GTO's for 319, so i'm not too hesitant to pay an extra 60 for a true GTX guaranteed to have 1.1ns ram. Newegg is sold out of every single GTX model they had, and with the G80's on the horizon don't expect to see them around for much longer.

I haven't had any problems with MSI video cards or motherboards.
I believe they lean more towards the standard reference design.
I'm running these cards in SLI mode and didn't have a problem with either card standalone.

I've received my MSI rebates in a timely fashion in the past (standard 4-6 weeks if I recall correctly).

This deal isn't too bad, since they are gauranteed to run at GTX speeds, whereas the the GTO (regardless of what everyone out there is crying out) may or may not reach GTX speeds.
The rebate is an issue however.

I highly doubt that nvidia will discontinue the 7900gtx any time soon. You are basing your statement on the fact that one retailer is out of stock. This seems silly to me. In fact, there are plenty of 6800s around still.

Anyway, $300 for a gtx is nice, but I think prices will really start to fall in December.

No i didn't say they were discontinued, they could be around for another year yet or they could get phased out in the next few months or weeks, the point i was trying to make is you never know which shipment could be the last, one day they just sell out and thats it.


But if i'm not mistaken, the GTO's were the byproducts of manufacturing the GTX's, they were basically the ones with memory that didn't clock @1.1ns when passing through the QC tests, so they were sold at a discounted rate. If my logic doesn't fail me, the disappearance of the GTO's should mean the GTX manufacturing cycle has stopped, right?

Is this GTX better or an MSI X1900XT as they have a 150$ rebate on it. So it ends around or cheaper than the 7900. Both are 512MB memory

The 7900GTX and the 1900XT are pretty evenly matched, ATI has the better image quality by far, but The Nv is a lot more game friendly and it runs a lot more fluidly

Misinformation at its best... The GTO's are not GTX's that couldn't clock the memory high enough. They were built on leftover pcb's from manufactoring plants. Read the thread on the GTO deal and you woulda seen that posted. The best part about the EVGA GTO's is that is provides ones who got em the ability to step up to 8800.

To me the best part about the GTO was the fact it could be clocked to GTX speeds and maybe a little bit further. The step up program is kind of useless if you had to buy the 8800 or newer cards at MSRP (pay the difference). Step up programs are only good for those who don't really care about a good deal. eBay would be a better option than the step up program IMO.

I've heard you can, though i could be wrong, it's the GPU itself thats important not the manufacturer. But the Asus card is incapable of Sli'ing with anything but another Asus 7900GTX for some reason

just a comment about msi quality, it's been top notch for me both with mainboards and video cards as well as miscellaneous other cards and pc parts. this is going back quite some, at least five or six years. big thumbs up here.

7900GTX/GX2 have been discontinued, replaced by 7950GT and 8800's that support HDCP.
