Well, when the zombies come, I hope it is at a time when I am around all my buddies (or close too). I figure I can mount a pretty good assault on their main force when what I have access to right now. A trip to Home Depot (or any hardware store) might be in order. Also, a stop at the local gun store wouldn't hurt.

Anyways, we will attack the builk of the zombies with brutal effeciency, cutting through them like butter. One or two of us may fall in our struggle, but in the end, we will prevail. After the battle, bloodied and battered, we will take a boat to a tropical island filled with exotic fruits. Other survivors (mostly women) will join us there as it is the obvious refuge from the zombies. There we will live out our lives in sweet peace and harmony, slowly starting a new human race (zombie free of corse).

And these are the dumb zombies, like in Dawn of the Dead, not the vicious (although weak because they starved to death) zombies like in 28 days later.

Zombie attack is by far the best end of the world. Ever.

The single most important question is this: slow moving or fast moving zombies?

Zapp Brannigan: We need rest. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is spongy and bruised.

They are slow from far away, but when the get close they can leap at you. You need to destroy the brain or remove the head to ensure a kill. Also, they aren't too smart (a locked door will detour them for some time) and they can't smell or sense you outside of normal vision and hearing.

World War Z was easily one of the more entertaining books I've read in a while.

I've read the Zombie Survival Guide, I'm prepared to face the hordes of undead.

You need more options on your poll, and who's to say zombies can't learn to swim. I mean, they are undead after all, so theoretically they could just walk along the sea bed to your island without having to breathe.

I have enough ammo for the first couple thousand, more if I get a chance to set up the reloading press before my brains are eaten.

Slow. Zombies lose their brains, right? Running takes a lot of thinking, so slow...

Close Quarter combat: FN-P90 all the way.

Out in the open: Sawed up shotgun, longsword, and maybe a mace in there...

I doubt they would sink all the way to the bottom. If they could sink to the bottom, lifeless bodies would never turn up on the sides or rivers or on the coast, they would always be at the bottom. I think we can assume the zombies wouldn't think of holding onto something heavy to keep them at the bottom.

EDIT: The poll is a kickback to a famous zombie movie

Grab my 30-06 and SKS and go to the tallest building in town (about 5 stories). Save a round for myself.

The problem with the zombies in Dawn of the Dead is their resiliency. Sure, they aren't too bright, but whether 4 appendages or just 1, they keep coming at you. And no one knows how long they can remain undead. Months? Years? What happens if the buzzards start eating (what's left of) the flesh off the zombies, and then the buzzards become undead? What would an undead scavenger eat?

Fresh water is the most pressing problem. You never know if someone who is infected already has drank from that water source and tainted it.

.50 cal machine gun is going to be needed at some point, especially if you are dealing with a mob of 40-60+ zombies. The inherent issue here is the amount of noise the MG will make, thus attracting more zombies from other parts of the city.

Flares and bottles of Everclear would be pretty handy in chokepoint situations. Another useful thing would be using pets.. one suicide dog can go a long way towards weeding out a good gaggle of zombies.

Fallout shelter FTW.
As long as they aren't the dawn of the dead, olympic runner, type zombie, should have a good chance of surviving the end of the world.

I would head to an isolated island in the middle of nowhere and live out the rest of my days in paradise while everybody on the mainland turns into zombies.
