Zone Alarm Alarm!

I was wondering if anyone could help me? Zone Alarm customer support is no help at all. It has been longer than a year since I bought (40$) zone alarm pro 4. Since then, I have had a hard drive crash and needed to reinstall everything. I backed up the original download of zone alarm on cd. After re-installing zone alarm everything went smooth. The key worked and I was happy. Upon restart, zone alarm says I am running a trial version. Re-inputting the key does not work. I went to the zone alarm site and downloaded an archived version of the zone alarm I purchased. My key does not work. Had I not had a hard drive crash it would still be running to this day. Zone labs tells me that my ??hard drive crash was an event that happened and there is nothing that [they] can do for [me].? If I want my key to work I have to buy a new one. Is this total BS or what? If nobody has any ideas, or could you suggest a direct competitor of Zone Labs? I also requested to speak to a supervisor. They told me that they would have them call me. A call was never placed to me. Can you believe they told me that there is a free version of Zone Alarm and I could use that! As if I was not aware of that, but I BOUGHT the PRO version. I don?t believe in software piracy nor do I support it, but doing that would be a lot less head ache then trying to obtain something I paid for from Zone Alarm. Thoughts, ideas, suggestions are welcome.

Licenses are good for the number of years you buy.

So, if you have an old version. That's all your going to get.

I suggest re-newing your license.

Current version is 4.5.538.000

I use a separate drive for image backups. (Norton Ghost)
I suggest you concider a backup routine.

- no, it buys you a limited duration of updates, but not a limited duration of firewall use.

Assuming you install the same version as what you registered for, it should work. A more recent version of the program though is likely to deliberately not work. Yeah I think it's a load of sh!t too, unless you go over a "full version number" (or more to the point, a major program update).

If you did use the same version, phone again. ensure you ask for and note the name of whoever you talk to. being called back by supervisor is total bs.

Right. The license should work for the product I purchased. Two different custtomer reps told me that I am S.O.L unless I want to buy another license. They also told me that because I used a copy of my original download they they don't support the product. And when I told them I downloaded an archived version of the same version I purchased they told me that they could not help unless I bought another license. I was going to buy the next major version too. The one after 4.5. I just wanted to skip a major version before buying a new program. If I bought every major version of every program I would constantly be buying S$!T and I'm a broke bastard!

post on the ZA forums, either you'e leaving something out or they're telling you complete bs. You're supposed to buy a new lisence everytime you reinstall the product, format or whatever? You ARE using a copy of the downloaded installer and not a zip of ZA's install folder?

I am using the original exe file that I downloaded only it has been burned onto a CD. Thanks for the suggestion on the zone labs forums. I will go there now.

lol ,, you are funny.

The license I get gives me unlimited updates for the length of the license agreement.

I said nothing of limiting firewall use.
His firewall will still work fine.

My point was ...

He wasnt going to be able to get new version of is firewall from the update process.
ZA was telling him his license expired.
If he had a 'backup image' of the updates he was using, they would still work also.
Just cant get updates anymore.

For the record, if anyone has a Sam's Club nearby, ZA Pro will be $30. It comes under the Broderbund name and as soon as you register it they email you a new license number.
My version expires in 337 days.
