Trust me, Microsoft won't be "kinda sad" if they can grab as much market share with the Zune as the XBOX 360 has in the console market.
What about if they lose as much market share as they did with WinMob, online search, Pocket PC, etc?
The only reason the 360 can be viewed a success is because Sony fucked up so bad. To sell 25% more consoles than Sony when the PS3 is universally perceived as a failure is not really anything to brag about, considering the PS3 is twice the price of the 360. Let's also not ignore the fact that Wii is nearly outselling the 360 and PS3 *combined*, the amount of money Microsoft sunk into the Xbox project, and let's not forget the colossal fuck up that is RRoD.
The Zune sells less than the Sansa players. It's it distant third place in the portable media player market and the Zune HD offers really nothing much over the *current* iPod Touch/iPhone, much less what's coming on June 8th.
So much wrong in this post, I'm not even sure where to begin.
-Sony fucked up so bad, and the PS3 is a universal failure? According to who? The PS3 is a failure compared to the PS2 - the most successful console of all time - but the PS3 has still sold a decent amount & essentially won the Blu Ray vs HD DVD war for Sony. So no...the PS3 is certainly not a universal failure.
-I don't know why people always bring up the Wii when comparing the PS3 and XBox 360. Apples to oranges.
-As much of a fuck up as the RRoD issue is - its actually amazing that people are still buying XBoxs even since. That's a testament to the quality of the 360, is it not?
-Many people in this thread have shot down your claim that this offers nothing substantial over the current iPod Touch. Your dismissal of HD Radio has been roundly shot down, yet you ignore that, and still claim it has nothing.
-I owned two iPods, a Sansa, and now a Zune. Can you guess which one I've been happiest with? You've got it, the Zune. Each iteration of the Zune is a huge improvement over the last, with the HD being no exception.
