Is anybody really surprised at this?

Some people just never learned from the dotcom bubble. This company exploded in size on a disproportionately small product line. The earlier valuation was insane, and why does this company need 3000 employees?

Mobile gaming success seems like voodoo to me. The games are graphically primitive, and it comes down to pure play mechanics, and "something". Take AngryBirds. There wasn't anything innovative about the gameplay. The same thing has been out for awhile as a Flash game, but AngryBirds turned into a phenomenon. I wouldn't want to run a mega company on mobile gaming. I couldn't take the stress or uncertainty.

Credit card processing, billing, fraud claims, etc.

Also, since every game is a work in progress, and there's a new mobile OS every week or two (or a major patch to one) plus Flash is dead: they're constantly rewriting their stupid little apps, which means a game is never "done" enough to the point where you can free up the majority of your dev team and put them on a new project.

This. I goofed on some of their games off and on. My experience was that the games were riddled with bugs, crashes, and support that didn't. One player said it best I think. They used letter packs to spell out "I Quit Zynga Doesn't Listen" across the Castleville kingdom they'd created.

Companies are trying to change it, but as it stands, you can't copyright a concept. You can have the same game, but change the art, and it's perfectly legal(as it should be). If you made an exact clone, you could get into legal trouble.

there is a diffrence between making a game of the same type and there is blatant thieft. Zynga has a past of minor changes of games and releasing it under the Zynga bannar.

You guys realize how many developers make Chess games..etc. I don't see how putting a spin on it and changing the name is stealing. We see it everyday in the mainstream games
