I picked up this router when it was $19.99 OTD at CompUSSR.
I have been very happy with it. The firmware has many options in it although it is not a very intuitive layout. I have it set at WPA encryption and it hasn't hicupped once even when I am downloading at 9 Mbps. I should add I use an external antenna on my PC's Buffalo card to get the best reception.
Here is an old discusion thread about the router Old Thread
I just checked Zyxel's site and there is a new firmware, V 1.6. Haven't tried it yet.
Also I can add that it is rather stylish, very small and cute for those that care about such things.

This is a hot deal. The router can be used as a WPA bridge and it works with most routers ( other bridges work only with routers with the same manufacturer/chipset and cost way more). I have it set up in bridge mode with my Airlink router, have a PS2, XBOX 360 and replay tv connected to it. Works great with Xbox Live.

afaik, a wireless bridge basically acts as a wireless client with ethernet ports on your network...

Say you have a wireless router in one room, but devices that can only be wired via ethernet in another.

Wireless Router 1 ------(wirelessly)----> Wireless Bridge -----(ethernet cables)--- wired devices

It basically "bridges" two wireless points togeather, so wired devices can access the network as well.

And the reason these are cheap is that 11.n the mimo stuff is rolling out now, and its faster and betterer.

Sorry for any confusion. The desktop card is $9.99 after $10 erebate and $10 MIR.
The notebook card is $9.99 after $10 erebate and $10 MIR. The USB adapter is $9.99 after $10 erebate and $10 MIR. The router is $9.99 after $15 erebate (no mailing necessary) and $25 MIR.

I'm picking one up tomorrow.

My Di-624 rev.c has decided to constantly reboot the wired ports... wireless doesn't have a problem. And apparently this is a know failure of the units....moreso with the newer models.

Tech support at dlink blows also.

router installed easily enough....range (with booster antenna) seems good.

Two small gripes....

1. when adding mac addresses to filter list, or most other changes, router must reboot...30+ seconds.

2. cannot assign static IP based on MAC address.....not a big deal, but feature I like.

Not necessarily. They are better in terms of speed and coverage yes, but features? No. That crown is given to broadcom chipsets and their third party firmwares.

Also, this zyxel router happens to be a realtek 8186 chipset that runs linux. The full source code is available as well. It is only a matter of time before someone makes a decent third party firmware for this router hopefully.

EDIT: Also I must note that not all broadcom chipsets are worthy of recognition for superior features. The ones that come to mind are the recent wrt54g/gs v5 that linksys makes. These routers can only run a much more limiting 3rd party firmware unless you have enough skill to desolder the flash chip and replace it with something larger. Either that or do the MMC/SD mod which would probably be much easier. But that way requires adding the extra features/packages manually which would still be easier than replacing the flash chip. Although some might argue on that point.

can i use this as a wireless bridge for my hauppauge media mvp? is that possible? the bridge and media mvp would be next to my TV and the router would be across the room. stretching an ethernet cable across the room has been kind of ghetto, altho faster than wireless

udonoogen: well if you want faster than wireless, why don't you just wire the cat5e properly? Then you'll have great speed and it won't look ghetto. It should be able to act as a bridge per ofacto's post.
