This is a 4 DS, 4 US, channel bonding Docsis 3.0 cablemodem, much like the Motorola SB6121.

Compatible with Comcast, according to both Comcast's modem list, and Newegg's product description. (Two reviews claiming otherwise notwithstanding. Apparently Comcast's installer techs are not familiar with this modem.)

NOT compatible with Time Warner.

I might of went with this one if I had seen it yesterday, I went with a used one from Ebay, a Motorola SB6121 for $36 shipped, as long as I dont have a problem with it I definitely prefer the SB6121, Ive had an old Mortorola SB5120 for a good 5 or 6 years with out an issue. Didn't realize I was getting held back by this modem as speeds are now 50mbs or maybe even 105mbs from what I am hearing now from comcast.

I'm running a SB6120 on Comcast and pulling over 50mbit (somewhere around 57).

It's been rock solid and if it ever gave up the ghost, I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Almost went with the SB6120 as I really didn't want to wait around for auctions to end as they had one of those go for about $29 shipped, Went with the SB6121 for $7 more as its a bit newer. Really didn't want to pay $65 to $80 for a new modem.

The last digit seems to have some relation to ISP compatibility, 0 Comcast, 1 TWC. At least a couple seem that way.

Actually, The SB6121 is a newer model all around, appearance is also different.

Why do some Docsis 3.0 cable modems only give you 4 channel ds.
I am using 4 year old Cisco DPQ3212C which is using 8 channel3 ds. and 3 us.

Earlier Docsis 3.0 modems were 4x4. Newer are 8x4, and I've heard 16x4 or 16x8 are coming out soon.

I heard from a post on BBR that Comcast is going to phase out Docsis 4x4 modems in a few months too. (Note that I read that after I posted this deal, but that might be the reason for the low price.)

A 4x4 modem will limit you to around 130Mbit/sec downloads. So best not to subscribe to anything higher than Blast 105 on Comcast, for those regions where Blast was increased from 50 to 105 (such as in the NE).

I was just reading this as well but believe I will be fine with the SB6121 for a good several years. Ive been on a Docsis 2 modem till now and was ok with my 30mb download speeds. If Im truly pushed to 105mb down right now I dont see paying more for anything else anytime soon, so the 4x4 modems will do just fine. On a side note, the original modem posted in this thread has a new coupon for another $5 less today, Its down to $30, probably today only I would suspect.
